What’s Coming
Not my words, but ones I agree with: “Billions around the world experience daily what we are getting ready to experience. I will do all I can to prepare, but I will also make it a point to live and be at peace in the moment, because now is all we have ever had. I will be good to other people, because their suffering is as important as mine. And I will hope for the best because I am not in the position to directly change the course we are on, or I would.” Read more »

“The Grapes of Wrath”
My mom’s folks moved to California in the 1930s, from Texas, New Mexico, and having Oklahoma roots. My dad’s family moved from Kansas and Nebraska to California in 1941 to find work. They were rural people seeking a better life, both sides. Neither side were migrant-refugees from the Dust Bowl, but they were of that time and place, and headed to California like the rest. My mom’s family did okay, but they followed the dream of the time. Everybody had to work for it. They were truckdrivers and waitresses and farmers.
My dad’s family had a tougher life they were escaping… Read more »

Mystical experiences—good for biology
People’s spiritual experiences of nature confer evolutionary advantages.
The idea might be startling to those who think science and spirituality have little to do with each other. But recently I had the pleasure of hearing environmental scientist Terry Terhaar, a forestry policy expert, give a talk at Prescott College on the science of nature spirituality.
Terry explained how her research came about.
As a scientist I may be skeptical of spiritual experiences, but I cannot assume an experience of oneness lacks material evidence.
So, using the tools of science–careful and systematic observation—she began amassing the material evidence, talking to people about what they experienced while… Read more »

Place = Time + Height + Width + Depth
A place is a time, and a time is a place. Our body is also a place.
There are not just three dimensions of height, width, and thickness…time is the fourth dimension of material being, on the exact same level as height, width, and thickness. It is artificial to say, this is 3d (height, width, thickness) and then there is time. They are all four at the same level. They all are experiences of material reality.
And that is also true of God. God is NOT material and so has no height, no breadth, no thickness, and no time. That is eternity.… Read more »

Lands as Relationships
I was born in LA county in 1960 and feel NO connection there. None. Even the ocean is changed. I do like the salt air smell and the eucalyptus trees. It is like being an adoptee who occasionally visits a biological parent who has both terminal cancer and Alzheimer’s. You came from them originally, but there is no mutual recognition on any meaningful level and only sadness and alienation.
I moved to Montana when I was 5, and it is here I have my identity. This is where I know the light, the patterns of weather, the smells of the woods,… Read more »

Charlie and the Gods of Love 2009-10-27 20:35:00
Charlie says:
Everything you create can be a work of art.
Everything you do can be an act of love.
I believe that there are many gods.
I speak for Charlie and the gods of love.
You have a right to your own gods and I have a right to mine,
but I will testify to the value of my gods,
and I will witness to their love for humankind.
I have faith in the salvation they lead us to.
I have faith in the heaven to which I go.
I love my gods and they love me.
They love you, too, in the way they love each blade… Read more »

What’s next?
It’s been almost two months since I last wrote on this blog. During those months, I battled Lyme Disease and several other ills, and came to understand that I would not heal in body until my nonmaterial self was healed. So, I’ve been working in spirit with Charlie as well as with my human medicine helpers, and I am healing more every day.
I plan to continue writing in my other blog “Charlie and the Gods of Love” and let this one rest, keeping it in archive as long as Blogger will allow. I hope you’ll visit me at Charlie’s!
Blessed be!

Pechan: The Sandhill Crane
We have had a couple of snows now, and the Thunder is long gone and the story-guarding Snakes are underground. The time of storytelling is upon us…
Long ago, shortly after the Four Brothers came out of the waters, all the birds of the earth looked exactly alike. They were all of one big tribe and spoke the same language. They built their nests exactly alike, in one huge village in tall trees, and they ate the same kind of food.
The village was near a shallow river. The birds enjoyed bathing and drinking in the river, and they liked to eat… Read more »
